Joey Grimm was born in Kansas City, Missouri and raised in De Soto, Kansas. He became interested in making moving sculptures as a result of tinkering with cars and learning how engines operate. Over the past ten years, Grimm has worked for kinetic sculptors Jim Woodfill, Graham Lane, and Mac MacClanahan on projects ranging from small kinetic sculptures to producing high speed art cars. After receiving his BFA from the Kansas City Art institute in 2010, he was awarded a scholarship to attend the Masters of Fine Arts program at the University of Delaware where he is researching and producing kinectic sculpture. After completing his studies, Grimm plans to start a studio in Kansas City, Missouri.
